Redacted... belatedly

Somewhat belatedly, here's my quick take on Brian De Palma's movie Redacted. First off, I haven't seen it and by the time I'll get to see it it'll definitely be old news: this is not the sort of feel-good fluff that usually gets shown in the one horse town I call home. Most likely I'll have to wait for the video release. Am I really that bothered to watch it? Not really. I believe it probably wouldn't really "teach" me all that much: war is a messy business and "bad shit happens" (sadly, we become somewhat immune to that). Which makes it all the more irritating that birdbrains like Bill O'Lielly feel the need to mount an assault on freedom of speech over it, including much hyperbole about how "this is going to hurt our troops" and with the rest of the gallery chirping the usual claptrap about "traitors" and "communists". Here's the Giant Head's "I'm coming after you, Mark Cuban" kerfuffle again (YouTube). I've gotta say Bill, that someone like me, and I bet I'm not the only one, became rather drawn to the movie like a bull to a red rag after watching your ridiculous antics with regards to what is essentially a piece of film making that's apparently based on true facts.

Here's the trailer (from the official Redacted site):

Here's the "criminal" (Brian De Palma) interviewed by Salon.

And this is Redacted's media toolkit, including the code for embedding the trailer into your blog or website.

**Sigh**...Gert, Gert, Gert....

Oh...What's the use....

No Dammit...here goes. Having investigated hundreds of homicides over the years, and having testified in court almost the same number of times regarding that particular crime, I know that there are certain photographs that are not, nor will not, be allowed into evidence as they will have a tendency to inflame the jury to make an emotional decision...

This is what this is all about...not Freedom of Speech, O'Reilly has said that many many times regarding this movie. It's about the timing of this abortion and where it will be viewed the most...probably in Muslim countries, it sure bombed BIG TIME here in the States..only making a paltry $25,000 dollars. Even the left wing loons (which I know you're not one of) didn't go to see it....

This is truly about it's infammatory nature, and represents a very horrible unfortunate incident of a very few bad soldiers, and they are doing full life in prison....

But others who do not know this will, or may, think it represents ALL American military people...

Uuuggghhhh....

You cannot curtail freedom of press on that basis.

O'Lielly's argument is basically that it's "unamerican". That sounds suspiciously like the Islamist loons declaring something "unislamic".

The lack of success of the film is due to the fact that this is hardly mainstream subject matter. Some of the best movies I've ever seen hardly sold at all. Success doesn't equal truth or quality.

You underestimate Mankind's ability to absorb controversial material w/o negative consequences. We're not all kids.

Also: you haven't seen it either, have you?

No Sir...haven't seen it either...I was only addressing YOUR post...

What's "UnAmerican" is what those low life animals did to that poor girl and her family...so please...don't try to equate O'Reilly's use of that term as it applies to how people from our great Nation should act...to a religion... "Apples to Oranges"...
