Bin Laden's Latest Vid

Find the subtitled video here. In it, he calls for stopping European support for the US in Afghanistan. Is this a prelude to further attacks on European participants?

Of Course he calls for stopping of support. He's loosing...and we are at war ya know...like it or not...

Look Gert...folks can bitch & moan all day long about how Bush lied, Cheney lied, MI6 lied, Israeli Intelligence lied...everybody lied... but the fact remains...we're in a freakin war now...so the object is to kick the enemies ass's and win...

You folks have already seen what extreme Islamic Muslims can do, both in our country and yours, and Spain, and infinatum...those are your enemies....

Old British saying..."In for a Penny...In for a Pound". Accept it and lets start working together...geesh...

Where are the enemy's divisions, platoons, battle groups, navy and air force? Where is its central command structure? Its missile capability? Its coordinated approach to achieve the common goal? Where and what is its common goal?

No, this is not a war in the classical sense of the word: the enemy is too much of a rag-tag bunch, internally very divided and often with very regional, instead of international, objectives. Jihadists in Waziristan have little, if anything, in common with bin Laden, apart from a perverted interpretation of Islam.

Taliban fighters in Afghanistan have very little to do with al-Qaeda neither: they're simply fighting what they (rightly or wrongly) see as another occupation of their lands. They've done so for centuries (and they've never really lost!) I'm in favour of staying the course in Afghanistan because of the moderates in that country that deserve our support but nothing else.

The "war on terror" is best fought at home with a variety of measures. Occupying more Muslims lands will only lead to more quagmires รก la Iraq and will make more Muslims turn to radical measures. Inevitably, we're already seeing this happening.

The Taliban has been making incredible inroads in Afghanistan. They control now about 50% of the country. To top it off Karzai's government compromises often with Islamism.

See this.

I gotta admit Gert, when I intentionally wrote what I did in the first comment...I thought (knowing your readership) that we would get a fairly lively debate going...but it sorta fizzled (with the exception of yourself...which I expected)...

Hmmm...maybe everybody's just relaxin this weekend....

OK...take care mate...give my "howdy's to all...

Re Afghanistan - I would advise you all to read related pieces by Terry Glavin - one of the sane left many of us would prefer to remain, here:
