What does 2000 look like?

The US death toll in Iraq is now rapidly approaching 2,000. Ever wondered what 2,000 looks like? Whether you're pro-war or against it there's a must-see flash animation trying to illustrate how you should imagine the 2,000 casualties. And it falls miserably short of it's target. But it's agitprop at it's best...

A powerful animation that reminds everyone it's not just statistics but people's lives. As I understand it (which might be wrong) the real toll is yet even larger when including those who die in foreign hospitals, 'green card' soldiers and various corporate 'security' forces (mercenaries). And now they trying to find angles to go into Syria and hit Iran. It starts with UN sanctions, some postulate that Iraq will be used to attack Syria or UN forces used. This is a world gone insane for the benefit of a tiny number of sickos and corporations.

As regards the real number, this part of the problem: we rely entirely on the MSM for our information about the war. I believe if things were shown as they actually are on the ground in the theatre of war, popular support would have dwindled to a solid zero a long time ago, but you could say that about most wars.

As regards Syria and Ira, privately I'm hoping this is simply grandstanding and that the US/UK won't have the bottle (political and military will) to carry out the threats...

What gets even less coverage, is the nightmare of the high numbers and the severity of the maimed - the physical and mental 'cripples' that will be 'dumped' on the streets of the US. Way, way worse than Nam ever was.

For the life of me I can't remember the name of the stuff, bu a brand new 'miracle gel' was hailed [early on in this latest war] as a real miracle.

Most battle fatalities are & always have been due to massive loss of blood - regardless of the exact nature of wounds' injuries sustained.

The new gel is ultra effective in sealing and stemming bleeding, so many that would normally have died, are saved.

But 'saved' is the wrong word. Lots of the surviviors of this carnage would be better off dead - really - much as it sounds such a calous thing to say.

The horendous severity/levels of 'disabilties' - again, mental and physical - that many, many thousands have and still are sustaining, are almost beyond belief.

Nature 'intended' for members any species to expire at certain given points. Man has now got to be just toooo clever. Honestly, it's actually pure Frankenstien stuff.

God help them. And God help those close to them.

And God forgive those responsible, and all those who WILL forget their pain, suffering & sacrifice - and simply shun them - totally, once they're 'dumped' back amongst their own people in their own societies.

Okay, I'm repeating myself now but, believe me, even if this all magically ended tomorrow -- there's still a nightmare ahead. An extremely long term one, too.

Oh, I forgot completely to mention the depleted-uranium-related future nightmare.

The effects of THAT, will even be passed on to the as yet, unborn.

Who knows for how many generations.

Gawd, time for cuppa. The more I talk abou it, the angrier I get.

Yes, depleted uranium, consisting mainly of U238, is something we know little about in terms of physiological/metabolistic effects. There are some studies but most contradict each other. But as a qualified chemical engineer I find it hard to believe that such a "heavy metal par excellence" with an extremely rich inorganic chemistry will not find a way to metabolise...

This is a potential time bomb which for now will be brushed under the carpet.

Anyway, you've just given me some "food for blog"...
